PRESTATION

The system of Prestation is what keeps vampiric society together and tempers the Bestial inclination toward violent isolationism. As a result, Kindred society is a Byzantine knot of favors owed, loyalties sworn, debts repaid, and promises broken. Prestation is the primary form of currency among the Damned, who are able to outlive a nation’s local economic system.

In some domains, boons operate like credit, in that a vampire must owe a boon for another vampire to extend them one boon – they must be seen as trustworthy. In other domains, the opposite is true; the more debts a Kindred owes, the less capable of repaying those boons they are assumed to be. While the Harpies of the Camarilla make it their job to track who owes whom, those Kindred within the Anarch Movement tend to trade in Boons more literally, as symbolized by small trinkets.

They say a clever vampire grants favors while a foolish one incurs them — and becomes a servant to their promises and debts. Yet those debts owed aren't created out of thin air. In order to owe someone a boon, you probably got something in return. Furthermore, if ever you meet the Final Death, your sire or eldest childe may inherit your debt. In lieu of a clear lineage, your executioner may find that they are now expected to pay your debt instead. This means that owing boons to powerful and feared vampires is one of the best forms of protections you can get.

  • Trivial Boons are a minor favor that owed between two vampires. This is something simple, such as making an introduction, covering a faux pas, or warning a vampire about a potential danger. This type of boon should be freely offered and accepted, much like a business card. A trivial boon is an excellent way to start a relationship.

  • Minor Boons represent a favor that requires a significant amount of time or effort, but low risk. You might be asked to watch over someone’s property. You might be asked to retrieve a retainer, help someone gain feeding rights for a short amount of time, or help another vampire gain control over some minor bits of influence.

  • Major Boons are a serious favor that might involve risking your life or political and social capital. This might involve you fighting an enemy, protecting an enemy with your life, or supplanting your own political and social desires.

  • Life Boons are rare and should only be given in circumstances when a vampire saves the life of another vampire when not required to do so due to social circumstances. Owing a life boon can be a tragic situation. To many vampires, owing a life boon is the equivalent of being an unreleased childer. To owe a life boon is to surrender all of your own will until you have saved the life of the one that owns your life boon. Until then, you are the equivalent of vampire furniture with no will of your own.

For the mechanical effects of specific Prestation, please see the Merits & Flaws section.

MASQUERADE BREACHES

  • Aradia Mercoledi left her car parked on the sidewalk throughout the day — while the door handle and steering wheel were covered in blood. It was thoroughly inspected by two plainclothes officers before being towed. 24/01/2022
  • Dave Williams was Embraced in the showroom of the RadioShack in Flushing, Queens. Though the store was "closed early" and locked up, Aradia Mercoledi performed this profane rite with security cameras running. 12/01/2021
  • The bodies of two police officers were found in Woodlawn Cemetery. One officer — the suspected victim of a Satanic ritual — was bled dry atop a pile of exhumed corpses. His blood was further used to desecrate the sepulcher with profane symbols and phrases. The second officer was drained of all blood in the processing office near the cemetery's rear gate. His partner claims that a risen corpse was responsible for the attack — a corpse he himself shot several times to no effect. 28/07/2020
  • A suspicious car was found during the raid on Van Cortlandt Park. Though not explicitly connected to the gang activity that night, it was parked after hours. Furthermore, the modifications present don't appear to be strictly street legal. As such, it was towed to the local impound lot. The registration is under Aradia Mercoledi. 28/07/2020
  • Fire erupted at the Cherry Pit, burning enough of it to warrant an official investigation. Though nothing overtly supernatural was found, two corpses and a pile of miscellaneous body parts aroused further suspicion. Authorities are especially puzzled, as the state of decay seems to indicate that these murders occurred weeks beforehand. Official reports have indicated that the remains were the unfortunate victims of a human trafficking ring, with the fire perhaps being set to cover it up. The partial list of clients that was found — containing more than a few celebrities and politicians — has not been officially documented. 16/06/2020
  • Several subway passengers were present as members of the coterie and their Lasombra companion engaged a pair of hostile vampires. While the actual events were shrouded in darkness, the passengers were left in the violent aftermath of gore and severed limbs. Up to a dozen people also saw the coterie members leaving through the subway station covered in blood. Security camera footage may also exist. 05/05/2020
  • Members of the coterie were chased by a hijacked city bus. The driver and passengers were essentially held hostage until the perusing vampire intentionally crashed the bus. Two members of the coterie were seen exiting their van without injury, despite the severity of the wreckage. The van was a business asset of the Mosh Pit and is likely registered as such. Furthermore, the mangled body of the pursuing vampire was left in torpor in a nearby alley. Police arrived on the scene early enough that they were able to recover the body before dawn. 05/05/2020
  • Engaged in a shootout in the middle of a traffic jam. Witnesses report seeing several members of the coterie sustain gunshot wounds without being affected. Two of the bodies left behind show almost animal-like claw marks. A van matching the description of the one that the coterie fled in was later recovered by police, burned down to the frame on the shore of the Hudson River. It could not be conclusively linked to the scene however, as the license plates had been removed. 05/05/2020
  • Used the payphone outside of Avalon to setup a drug deal at JFK International Airport. Due to the already illicit activities of the Pendragons, the line was being monitored by the ATF. 21/04/2020
