Tariq originally hails from the western regions of Iberia, but converted to Islam during its Golden Age. He became particularly enamored with Mecca, a city which Kindred thought "untouchable" due to the aura of poisonous faith encircling it. Still, Tariq ventured to the Arabian Peninsula to gaze upon the holiest of sites, living for some time in Medina... the nearest any Kindred could comfortably get. There he studied with the Hajj Bay't.

Tariq's time would come following the Qarmatians' sacking of Mecca, where they desecrated the Zamzam Well and stole the sacred Black Stone from the walls of the Ka'bah. The theft of the stone silenced the web of faith which had previously radiated outward from the city. For twenty quiet years the Hajj Bay't fortified Mecca before any other Ashirra could lay claim to the city. Once the Black Stone was finally returned, the Sihr ritual had already been put into place, lessening the effects of the waves of human faith.
