Irish Spring

1982 saw the release of Irish Spring's first album, "Saoirse". Though featuring songs previously released as EPs, many received new mixes.

Irish Spring is a Celtic punk band, featuring an appealing fusion of bagpipes, fiddle, and electric guitar.

Though originally known as "The Banshees", the band faced legal challenges from Polydor Records as they became more broadly known. Their updated name is a play on words, most obviously referencing the popular deodorant soap, while also alluding to the 1848 Spring of Nations and the 1968 Prague Spring.

They are outspokenly against British colonialism, and have received considerable criticism for their public support of the IRA. Their lyrics explore politics, Celtic culture and identity, heritage, religion, drinking, and working class pride. They are perhaps best known for their songs "Mortars Over Newry", "Fuck Me, I'm Irish", and "Peace Lines (Knock 'em Down)".
